guest blogger: le closet's alyssa wilson.

I am thrilled to be the new monthly guest blogger for fave magazine. This opportunity will allow myself to share what I love most with all fave readers. I decided for my first post that I would let you in on some of my favourite new beauty products. If you don't already know by now, you will soon discover that I am a beauty product junkie! I am always wanting to try out the next best thing on the shelf, but once I find something I truly love, I stick with it and feel that it's important to share it with all the other beauty lovers out there. Taking care of your skin is très important. Here are new favourites in my beauty bag that I recommend. Enjoy!

{1}
Smith's entire line is lovely, but I've recently tried this one which helps clear up my sinuses while still being super moisturizing on my lips.

{2}
My new lip balm for 'on the go'. Non-scented, and leaves my lips silky smooth. Always in my purse!

{3}
This has been around for years and I have never had the urge to try it ...until now. Gives my legs a natural tan and super easy application. Leaves no streaks and the price is a bonus. Just remember to moisturize!

{4}
My friend in Montreal just introduced me to these. Best described as small clouds for your face. The softest cotton pads I have ever felt. Perfect for removing eye makeup without scratching the senstive area. Will never go back to any other cotton pads.

{5}
I wear mascara and liner every day and this remover takes it all off without iritating my eyes or leaving them dry.

{6}
I bought this as a set (Vinosource Hydration Set) and all three products are wonderful but I am especially loving this serum. I wear it together with the lotion during the day and stick to just the serum at night. Lightweight and extremely mosturizing.

{7}
First time trying out this brand and I am truly impressed. This cleanser foams up perfectly and removes all dirt & makeup. I also love the smell!

{8}
I used to skip the "primer" step during my makeup routine as I always disliked the formulas I've tried. I just discovered this one by M.A.C and I use it every day. I love that it feels more like a lotion and has illuminating pearl powders (as well as a yellow tint) for that extra glow.

Merci,
Alyssa

M.O.T Fashion, Part 2.

Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto

Fashion Week, Spring/Summer 2013

As a follow up to my review of the major Canadian fashion weeks in the latest issue of Fave Magazine  here are some of our other favourite collections. With spring in full swing now, these looks are sure to be ideal for the sunny weather.

Montreal

Retail-ready and consumer-friendly, architecturally trained designer Rachel Sin produced a collection of sweet feminine clothing perfect for the sunny days of summer. With a neutral colour palette of beiges and blacks, and with pops of coral pink, these looks are right on trend and are sure to be a big hit.

Inspired by Grace Kelly, Jeff Garner’s collection was dazzling and romantic. Feminine frocks and corseted gowns graced the runway in laces, satins and chiffons. Soft pastel hues were detailed with delicate subtlety, and models donned elegant updos. The breathtaking couture, the charming music, and the theatrics of the show evoked a romantic spirit, and successfully produced a collection that had the grace of a princess.

Designer Sunny Fong, Ryerson arts graduate and Project Runway Canada winner, was the star of the season. His collection was reminiscent of a 1980s party and was set to a soundtrack that was thematically perfect. Provocative harnessed bodices, broad shoulders, Madonna-esque cone bras, and pieces in leather and chiffon graced the runway. The graphic colour palette included black, white, and blood red, and finished with a deep eggplant-purple dress. Models also donned T-strap heels and Lennon-sunglasses, completing the innovative and current collection.

Great Fashion, Great Gatsby

With the grand premier of Baz Luhrmann's long-awaited The Great Gatsby just over a week away, I feel that it is appropriate to acknowledge the great revival of 1920s-inspired fashion that it has sparked. I may have thought the jazz-age fad was just that: a fad, but to my pleasant surprise the twenties are still roaring down the runways. Long, layered strands of pearls paired with drop-waist frocks, geometric patterns, flirtatious headpieces, and art deco inspired jewels have once again become the go-to look for a night on the town.

Check out the looks below for some ideas.

Enjoy!

ITG and Isabelle Bellis show you how to wash your face!

Washing your face...
seems simple right?
wrong!
It is a common misconception that washing your face isen't all that important and that the method you use doesn't really matter.
Into the Gloss recently created a two part video series with New York City facialist Isabelle Bellis who, to be perfectly honest, is a total skincare genius.
I invite you to check out the amazingly helpful videos and learn a little more about how to properly take care of your skin. You have to take care of your skin if you really want it to keep looking great when you're older. It starts with the proper products and application.

Enjoy the videos!

Foundation to Innovation: Canterbury Fashion Show

Graphic Design: Eva Young
Model: Percy Miller

Fave Magazine is proud to announce themselves as the official media sponsor of the upcoming fashion show, Foundation to Innovation, produced by the Canterbury Arts Program.

As all of you have been perusing the latest issues of Fave Magazine, you may have noticed posters promoting this event.

What is Foundation to Innovation about, you may ask?

The Canterbury High School Visual Arts Program produces an annual fashion show with the purpose of showcasing student design and modelling talent. All the profits go towards the Arts Program Funds, which purchases art supplies for students for the coming years.

For this years' theme, students were asked to consider the evolution of fashion - starting with the foundation of classic garment design, and then looking at how design has evolved with modernity and innovation.
Thus, the show is devided into two portions: first showcasing classically inspired designs, then innovative modern designs.

Graphic Design: Eva Young
Models: Percy Miller & Tyrin Kelly

During the intermission, guests are invited to purchase baked goods, Bridgehead coffee, and products from our various vendors, all while enjoying the sound of the student band The Tall Trees.

Come on out and support the Canterbury High School Arts Program, and enjoy a night of fashion, food, and music.

April 12th and 13th 2013, 7pm-9pm
